Business Systems Analyst

Seth Skocelas

I turn what business teams need into software that ships — gathering the requirement, then writing the SQL and C# behind it.

About

I am a Business Systems Analyst who also writes the code, and that blend is the useful part. I can sit with a business stakeholder, turn what they describe into documentation a developer can build from, and then make the change myself when it needs to ship — usually a stored procedure, an extract file, or a .NET application.

Most of that work has been in auto finance and cash logistics: the systems a bank or a servicing team actually runs on. I have worked on teams covering every part of those businesses, alongside internal stakeholders, banking clients and third-party contractors, and the standard is the same in either direction — delivered, accurate and on time.

Experience

  • May 2022 – Present · Coppell, Texas

Information Systems Analyst · Brink’s Inc

Partner with more than ten banking clients on the daily cash-flow and inventory extract files they report from, and act as the liaison between those stakeholders and the internal development teams. Adapt to each client’s structure — working alone or in a group — so every account and added customer shows up correctly in reporting, and use Oracle SQL to trace the root cause of the data discrepancies banks raise. Led user acceptance testing of the existing extract files through a large middleware migration from BizTalk to MuleSoft, coordinating with third-party contractors to confirm production readiness.

  • Dec 2019 – Jan 2022

    Application Developer

Returned a stalled internal .NET MVC web application to a releasable state by moving it onto Team Foundation Server, then shipped the back-end updates that kept it viable: new search criteria through a SQL stored procedure and data updates, removal of unused functionality that had become a security risk, and Excel export working again. Enhancement updates to the main servicing .NET WinForms application — back-end code and stored-procedure changes — delivered on time inside monthly iterations, plus release support and general production support for servicing applications, including Control-M file errors resolved on an on-call basis.

  • May 2015 – Dec 2019 · Dallas, Texas

    Business Systems Analyst

Researched letter mailing and imaging issues with SQL and other systems on the IT Correspondence team, resolving several tickets a day from business users, and worked directly with third-party mailing companies to implement new letter templates and hand off file transfers. Wrote weekly change requests that documented what data developers had changed, so the changes could be approved and deployed. Gathered requirements and wrote more than 50 agile user stories for a new internal .NET MVC data-entry and management system at Santander, then supported its releases by analyzing SQL data and smoke testing the new features, and demonstrated the results to IT management and business executives.

Education

B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2015. It is why the two halves of my work fit together: I can read a stored procedure as easily as I can read a business process.
